About

Further professional/scholarly details available on the scholarship page.
I’d like to be a bit more informal on this page, and talk about some other interests I have, some of the things that led me here—and a few lessons learned along the way.
I’m also holding back a bit here, as writing and scholarship are my priorities currently.
I enjoy the outdoors, books, coffee, craft beer, food, music (particularly rock, heavy metal, and classical), science fiction, and strength training. I have been happily married since 2013.
This is a 2019 picture of me with my dog, Chewie, hiking in a bog on the north side of Lake Bemidji. Chewie passed away on January 25, 2023 after a long and adventure-filled life, but I carry his memory with me every time I go outside.

Blog
I love to write. It is what motivated me to pursue a PhD. When not working on books, chapters, and articles, I maintain a quarterly (formerly monthly) blog, and occasionally add special entries when the mood strikes.
Topics: scholarship, writing, nature, culture, theory/big thoughts, music, growing older
Music
I used to be a musician. Well, I used to be a serious musician. It was a financial and emotional disaster, but it was often fun, and I made a lot of friends along the way.
I have continued to compose, play, and share music, time-permitting.

Here’s a picture of me playing digital piano in a parking lot in Arlington, TX in 2013 lol.
